The government of Zimbabwe faces a wide variety of difficult economic problems as it struggles with an unsustainable fiscal deficit, overvalued exchange rate, soaring inflation, and bare shelves. Its 1998-2002 involvement in the war in the Democratic Republic of the Congo, for example, drained hundreds of millions of dollars from the economy. Badly needed support from the IMF has been suspended because of the country's failure to meet budge- tary goals. Inflation rose from an annual rate of 32% in 1998 to 133% in 2004, while the exchange rate fell from 24 Zimbabwean dollars per US dollar to 6,200 in the same time period. The exchange rate as per April 2007 is 258.430 Zim dollars. With daily infulctiations.. all quotes given for equipment have a specification that the quotation is only valid for 24 hours!

The government's land reform program, characterized by chaos and violence, has badly damaged the commercial farming sector, the traditional source of exports and foreign exchange and the provider of 400,000 jobs.

Born in 1971, Tanja has a career in the corporate world. She dedicates her free time & money to helping children who has no one to turn to. Tanja is the Treasurer Multi-Help Trust. She, nor anyone else in MHT gets a salary - all is done on voluntary basis. Tanja has been interested in helping people for as long as she can remember. When Tanja left secondary school she went on a working holiday to places like New Zealand, Australia, etc. Her interest in Africa grew when she was working in the Seychelles Islands, experiencing a good way of living in a continent that is known to be the poorest in the world. In Djibouti she saw Africa in the way the media portrays it to the western world. A woman begging with a very skinny child in her arms with flies all over its face was a very emotional experience to her! Due to experiences like this, her interest grew into a desire to help others who were not as fortunate as having loving parents who will always be there when you need help. Her comments are: "If I try to explain in words how grateful I am to have such great parents, who have always stood by me no matter what I do, I can't find words to express this feeling. Coming back to Netherlands wasn't easy for me to settle down and I was hoping I would be able to 'create' a way of living in which I can spend more time with my family, friends and also doing volunteer work here in Amsterdam. I managed to do so and when Brenda-Lee came with the Multihelp idea to help abandoned babies - there was no hesitation in me" ---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Brenda-Lee studied Psychology.. then went into construction where she lead out in her own construction business... then did a total about turn and studied Clinical Massage therapy, Hydrotherapy, Health & Nutrition. She gives lectures in preventing & recovering from life-style diseases. She gives health seminars annually in Zimbabwe and teaches the care-givers and health workers how to build up the immune systems of HIV Aids sufferers, using natural remedies and by making healthy lifestyle changes.

Since the age of 16, Brenda-Lee has had it in her heart to help the street children, abandoned children, to give them a home, a safe warm place to stay, food in their bellies and the opportunity to better themselves through going to school.
She says: "Every child has a right to a home & education. They didn't ask to be brought into this world - if each person takes it upon themselves to help at least one child in this world.. this world will be a better place"
Her dream was realized through her dad, Des Paul, who dedicated his life & property to caring for the abandoned children. Having a trusted volunteer project leader she concentrates on organizing international funds to improve the living conditions of the children, feed & clothe them and send them to school.
Her last comment: "one person can not help everyone.. but everyone can help one person"

Ellen G. White motivates Brenda-Lee with her writings:

Brethren and sisters, I ask you to consider this matter carefully. Think of the wants of the fatherless and motherless. Are not your hearts stirred as you witness their sufferings? See if something cannot be done for the care of these helpless ones. As far as lies in your power, make a home for the homeless. Let everyone stand ready to act a part in helping forward this work. The Lord said to Peter: "Feed My lambs." This command is to us, and by opening our homes for the orphans we aid in its fulfillment. Let not Jesus be disappointed in you. {WM 222.2}

MHT was founded by Desmond Rufus Paul some 7 years ago. This was when Des dedicated the rest of his life and his estate to "Spreading the love of Jesus" through poverty alleviation programmes.
Helping the helpless is a family tradition demonstrated by Des Paul's father and mother whose unconditional love and generosity rubbed off onto their children and through them to their grand children and now even to their great grand children. Brenda-Lee's younger sister Laura-Anne helped Des accomplish what he could, by sending him US$ 100 every month.
Their older brother Gerald Paul and his wife Debbie started to send Des donations when he was able, they seemed to know when the need was the most. Their brother Graham and his wife Marcia send Des donations from time to time as they are able.

Des's sister Rosemary and her husband Dennis are very actively helping out.
They have arranged for the children & his daily supply of maize meal, the staple food of Zimbabwe.
Des's sister Carol and husband Dirk pay for Vanessa's schooling and holiday each year (Vanessa is one of the orphaned children, who's mother died shortly after her birth).
So you see it was started as a voluntary family activity.
Des is also a Naturopath Herbalist who incorporates prayer and diet in a healing processes. In this field Des is studying HIV/AIDS and related opportunistic diseases.
Most of Des's patients are not able to afford medication so Des teaches them what foods & herbs to grow, how to prepare healthy meals, and how to use the herbs for medication.

Des's personal note: "If we could just get some pledges for monthly donations it would make a big difference, although it's exciting to live on faith and have been adequately provided for by our Lord. He never fails us. Our first love is for dumped babies. We can share what we have with them and give them an identity and a future."
Des is also working in the Rural areas where he is helping the destitute to become independent, by teaching them natural farming systems, providing crop and food processing centers for their use, teaching them skills, health and hygiene and a meaningful Lifestyle.
Des's final comment is: "It is all growing so fast that I am constantly scraping the bottom of the barrel and my knees are becoming used to the 'Prayer' position."

Health Education

Action needs to be taken to help the rural, non-wage earning locals.. Due to the failing medical system in Zimbabwe and the unaffordable medication... there is need for alternative health measures.. Here MHT steps in with:

img * Herbal & Nutritional Clinic
Medication & diet reform on a naturalpathic basis
This clinic is in the process of being up-graded.
the income from this clinic supports the abandoned children.
Upgrade: €5,000

* Hydrotherapy
Simple home therapies practiced & taught.

* Health/Lifestyle Training
We have a ‘Lifestyle and Health’ team who visit the Rural areas and hold small workshops in the villages. They also assist in training activities in the Urban centers. We fully believe that this is the most practical and cost effective way of teaching / promoting, ‘Prevention and healthful living’.

* Annual Training Seminars
Brenda-Lee gives lectures in preventing & recovering from life-style diseases. She gives health seminars annually in Zimbabwe and teaches the care-givers and health workers how to build up the immune systems of HIV Aids sufferers, using natural remedies and by making healthy lifestyle changes. Support these seminars: €2,500 per annum

HELP BUILD A HOSPITAL

The Hospital project are for those who cannot afford the conventional hospitals, or non existing hospitals that have closed down due to the Zimbabwe health system falling apart.
The new hospital will not only care for the orphan children, who would normally have to walk 20 km to the nearest hospital, but also give training to nurses & health care givers in prevention of life style diseases. Building this hospital started as an ambitious project, Philipa Saurombe, a State Registered Nurse [SRN] who runs the whole hospital in Marange.

Once the hospital has been completed.. volunteer doctors and nurses from world wide universities will be encouraged to do 6 month terms at this hospital on a volunteer basis.
We encourage other hospitals world-wide to donate containers of hospital equipment & beds to this project.

Sponsors
A representative from the Ambassadors 'Self Help' department of the US Embassy said 'This is the best project that I have seen'. They have helped us to complete the brick work part of the hospital.The American Army donated a stand-by Electric Generator set, and a well has been dug and fitted with a temporary hand pump for the building operations.

We are at roof level now and are seeking funds to finish the project. Attached to the hospital is an 'Agriculture Centre' being developed on the adjoining stand. The Agriculture Centre, will generate an income for the hospital.
Three health workers are in the process of being trained for the hospital in Natural Remedies, Hydrotherapy, Lifestyle, Disease Prevention and AIDS related activities.

Hospital Project:
--------------
- Roofing, plumbing, electrical & finishings €50,000
--------------- An ambulance € 15,000
--------------- First Aid Ambulance driver €500 per annum
--------------- first aid worker €500
---------------
financial help to run the unit €10,000 per annum

The agricultural centre will support the hospital by growing fruits & vegetables for the staff and patients and generate an income by selling fresh produce on the market. This also gives the community an opportunity to learn to farm and grow their own foods, making them self supporting

Home for Abandoned children

img We have a very special burden for 'abandoned babies'. These are children who's parents have either died of aids and the relations cannot afford to feed them, or the parents have abandoned them. We find them abandoned in fields, dust-bins, door-steps and the latest baby we found, was dumped in a long-drop toilet of a rural school.

img The children have nothing, no name, unknown date-of-birth, unknown past and unknown parents with an uncertain future.
In building them a warm safe environment, we will give them a new identity, (a name) a warm place to stay, feed, clothe and educate them… giving them a new chance to life. Every child has a right to that opportunity.

With your support you can give a child a new home..
a name, and positive future... img

The main thing these kids need is love... give them the chance to learn what
love is...
